Welcome to Risk Mentor Fatigue Management
Business Input - Adequate multiskilling across crews to allow for fatigue relief
Expectation
Shift crews are multiskilled allowing for flexible work allocation
Specification
Requirements:
Training plans are implemented to provide sufficient skilled workers on all crews
Adequate multiskilling across crews is in place to allow for fatigue breaks (e.g. via job rotation) for key roles
Crew members can relieve each other (without requiring direct supervisor instruction) to manage fatigue impacts
Implementation
Shift crew training and assessment is executed in line with the training plan
Workers regularly relieve one another on high fatigue tasks through the working shift
Monitoring
Training records are kept to confirm all crews have sufficient trained and competent workers
Supervisor records include noting worker deployments – which are reviewed by others who confirm job rotation is in place and effective
Documents
HSE Guideline 48 – Minimise the number of safety critical tasks required on the night shift
UK HSE Guideline 256 Shift Work – Plan work so there is variation and work choice
