Expectation
Rostered work hours allow time for commuting, eating, washing, meeting personal commitments and adequate sleep.
Specification
Requirements:
Rosters are prepared (as far as possible) with input from affected workers
Daily work hours including commute are considered in work roster design allow for a minimum of six hours sleep
Fatigue risk guidance – roster length in hours 10 + medium to high 13 + working hours high
Training is provided to workers on sleep hygiene elements such as darkness of their sleeping space, noise levels, food and lifestyle choices that promote better quality sleep
Implementation
Work rosters reflect the hours of work policy
Workers and supervisors are trained in and assessed for understanding of the key aspects of good sleep hygiene (that also include food and other lifestyle choices)
Monitoring
Hours of attendance and travel are monitored for both direct and indirect employees
Training records and triggers for refreshers in tool box talks etc. are maintained by the sites health, safety and training team
